Ford to build on Le Mans legacy with Lego 0

Ford and Lego have collaborated to create a new ‘Speed Champion’ set that replicates the GT cars that were victorious at Le Mans – the world’s most celebrated endurance race. Two cars have been modelled – the editions that triumphed at the 1966 race and also this year’s winner can be found in brick format.

“This was a dream project – with a lot of pressure. The Ford GT40 is one of the most iconic race cars of all time, and the new Ford GT is just incredible,” said Craig Callum, head of design, LEGO Speed Champions. “Designed for children, but with grown-ups fans in mind too, we know these models will be closely scrutinized for authenticity.”

Many models of Ford’s back catalogue have already made the conversion to Lego, but the company hopes that this latest set will act as an inspiration that will influence careers choices of the future as well as continuing to preserve its performance landmarks.

“This kit is a powerful way to tell our Le Mans story, and will hopefully inspire the race drivers, engineers, and designers of the future,” said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance.

Enthusiasts of both Lego and Ford hoping to bag one of the ‘Speed Champion’ sets for Christmas are set to be disappointed however. Release is currently slated for March, 2017.
