Ford pledges future to Britain in major vote of confidence post Brexit 0

Ford-pledges-future-to-Britain-in-major-vote-of-confidence-post-BrexitIn a major vote of confidence following Brexit, Ford had become the latest car manufacturer to pledge its future to the UK following vote.

The announcement – coming two days after Nissan made similar overtures about their intention to remain – said that there were no plans to end production at any of its UK plants.

Ford’s European boss, Jim Farley, was quick to point out the American company’s long history of operations in the UK, with more than a century under its belt and 14,000 UK staff – far more than Nissan.

These comments come as a welcome tonic to doom laden claims that the American manufacturer was planning to close plants post-Brexit. Workers at the UK plants, such as Dunton in Bedfordshire and Bridgend in Wales, will be heartened to hear this vote of confidence. The company’s new Dragon engine is due to start production in Bridgend in 2018.

“We just announced a £100m investment in Bridgend to install our new Dragon engine and we have no plans to change our investments or make any new changes,” Farley said.

His comments were made as the European division posted record results, with profits jumping to £113m from £7m.
