97 year old petrolhead celebrates birthday with 155mph red Ford Mustang 0

Three years off his century, Lennart Ribring has celebrated his birthday in style by splashing out on a 155mph Ford Mustang.

Born in 1919, when the Mustang had been in production for 11 years, Lennart passed his driving test aged 18 in 1937. He was one of the first people in Sweden to own one of the original Mustangs back in the 1960s.

Now 97 years old, the octogenarian is one of the world’s oldest Mustang owners, having just taken delivery of the latest edition.

The bright red Mustang has a 5-litre V8 engine, and can do 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph.

Lennart, a retired businessman, still occasionally works as an accountant. Of his new acquisition he said, “I fell in love with the first Mustangs that came out and I have hardly thought about another car since. You felt a bit like king of the road.

“I don’t have long to live now, maybe. So, I want to take the opportunities I have to drive and have a little fun in life. This is the real thing.”

The veteran petrolhead went on to say: “I would encourage younger drivers to let their porridge cool down first.

“Learn about a car properly before you drive it. You must always think about safety.”

Lennart can look forward to enjoying his fame as one of the world’s most elderly Mustang drivers, as he and his new toy become acquainted.

Almost a mirror opposite to the speedy Suede, is Hector Fraire, 19, from Oklahoma in the US, who was arrested last week after being caught doing 208mph in his modified Mustang.
