Ford Mustang tops poll of Britain’s favourite performance car 0

Ford-Mustang-tops-poll-of-Britains-favourite-performance-carThe UK public has voted, and they have chosen Ford’s Mustang as their favourite performance car. The year’s sales to date show the car 60% ahead of its nearest rival.

Technically defined as a sports car boasting 250bhp or more, the sales chart shows the high performance car clearly ahead of its nearest rivals, the Jaguar F-Type, BMW 6 Series and Porsche 911.

Perhaps unexpectedly, the usually popular Audi TT has fallen to sixth place in the standings, behind the Porsche Cayman. This is most likely down to the fact that most TT sales have less then 250bhp: not an issue for the Mustang which fetches 314bhp even whilst in ‘standard’ 2.3-litre Ecoboost guise. The 5.0-litre version meanwhile produces 418bhp.

The V8 engine Mustang makes up 70% of all UK sales: logical given a list price from £34,995 (the Jaguar F-Type starts at £51,775). The Ecoboost is priced from £30,995, or the same price as a Ford Focus RS.

The Mustang was only introduced to Europe in autumn 2015 and since then has sold 19,500 across the region: 4,000 in Britain alone.
