Ford Focus RS driver drifts his way into a ditch 0

Ford-Focus-RS-driver-drifts-his-way-into-a-ditchFord’s new drift mode on the Focus RS has been widely praised despite accusations being levelled that it’s nothing more than a gimmick. One thing to become apparent quickly is, having drift mode doesn’t automatically make you a certified rally driver.

Drifting the new hot hatch still requires a certain amount of skill, something the driver of the car pictured here was sadly lacking. The wannabe speedster was caught on camera drifting into a ditch as he attempted to slide the car.

During an outing with the New York ST Owners Club, the RS was spotted taking a hairpin bend too quickly on the slide. The driver promptly lost control and slammed into the bordering cliff face and coming to rest in the adjacent drainage ditch.

Fortunately, no-one was hurt in the shunt, apart from the drivers ego as the footage of the stacking has become a viral hit across the world.

Ford’s official position is that the drift mode was designed exclusively for use on the race track, but there’s nothing to prevent aspiring speedsters from trying it out on the streets.

Hopefully this won’t be the last time where the cause of a crash is blamed on the shortcomings of the driver as opposed to the innovative technology of their vehicle.
