Sierra RS500 named ‘Ultimate Cosworth’ by fans 0

The Sierra RS500 has been crowned the ‘Ultimate Cosworth’ by the marque’s fans, finishing just ahead of the Escort RS.

The 80’s supercar was launched 30 years ago and initially its roots were initially as a fleet vehicle, a sales rep’s favourite the country over. A little tweaking and it was morphed into something that could legitimately hold its own against Porsches and Ferraris.

Developed with the intention of racing, the RS500 took the Ford Cosworth as a base, and then added larger turbochargers plus a heftier block to cope with the extra power. The most eye catching feature was undoubtedly the huge ‘whale tail’ that was needed to keep it stable at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour.

The Sierra RS500 took the accolade in a poll held in the run up to the recent Ford Fair held at Silverstone in July.
