Original Ford GT40 Roadster put on sale 0

If you’ve got a spare £5 million burning a hole in your pocket, you could do a lot worse than spend it on this original Ford GT40 Roadster, that’s been put up for sale recently in the States.

Only six of the model were built and this edition is particularly special as it’s the only version that still remains in its original specification.

Decked out in white with the iconic Ford racing stripes adorning it from bonnet to boot, the GT40 has a 380bhp V8 engine with a four-speed manual gearbox, independent suspension, disc brakes and a stylish dark blue interior.

Built in 1964, after the GT/108 chassis was delivered to Ford Advanced Vehicles, the home of the brand’s devastatingly successful Le Mans GT40 programme, it was tested at Silverstone the following March along with the GT/105 coupe chassis. It then made its way to the US, where it has remained to this day on display as an exhibit or demonstration vehicle at dealerships across the country.

It was given a thorough mechanical examination and freshening in 2003 before it took part in the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, finishing second in the GT40 class. It was also displayed at the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance during the 50th anniversary celebration of the GT40.

A price hasn’t been quoted by the auctioneers, Girardo & Co, but the GT40 is widely expected to fetch over £5 million.
