Is Ford planning to unleash the Fiesta RS? 0

Ford may be adding the RS badge to their ever popular Fiesta if reports are be believed. We normally hear of the RS badge on the Ford Focus but it seems the American based company are looking to head in a new direction.

When we heard rumours of a new RS model being developed by Ford’s Special Vehicles Team (SVT) we automatically thought that there would be a new Ford Focus RS.

The amazing Ford Focus RS
The current Ford Focus RS is able to produce an outstanding 300 BHP. It’s Revo-knuckle suspension helps the car handle wonderfully on the road with power going straight to the front wheels.

The departure of Jost Capito
If a brand new RS model was to be developed as either the Focus or Fiesta, it will not be plain sailing. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet as Jost Capito recently left his post as the Head of Ford’s Special Vehicles Team in order to takeover at Volkswagen.

The argument for the Ford Fiesta RS
There can only be one, a Fiesta or RS or a new Focus RS. There are many great arguments on both sides. One being that the Ford Focus is one the company’s most successful worldwide vehicles. Here in the UK it tops sales charts year upon year. Adding more appeal with an RS would make sense from that aspect. The Ford Fiesta has also been recently used in motorsport, being named as the Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
According to Ford executives, there should not be a five door RS model, meaning developing a Ford Fiesta is justified a bit more as there is no standard Ford Focus 3 door.

The argument for the Ford Focus RS
On the other hand the Ford Focus RS has been selling tremendously well ever since being released, which gives a great argument as to why there should be another version sold.

Has work already started?
Ford’s SVT department have apparently already begun to work on the new generation Fiesta ST model. They project is said to not take as long as some may think. The ST will contain the same brakes and suspension as that of the current Fiesta, only upgraded and updated. Technically the job is said not to be very difficult.
Market patterns will prove to be decisive factor in helping decide exactly which model will be built.
