Ford reveal new version of the Bullitt 0

The most iconic car chase in film history? You’d be hard pressed to name a better one than Bullitt’s high-speed white-knuckle ride through the streets of San Francisco, an ice-cool Steve McQueen at the wheel.

That particular chase was what put the Ford Mustang firmly amongst the coolest muscle cars out there, the vehicle that featured becoming an instant cinematic legend.

Fans of both the film and car will be delighted to hear that Ford is planning to release a new version of the Bullitt Mustang. The car was unveiled at the January Detroit Motor Show and was driven onto the stage by Steve McQueen’s granddaughter, Molly.

Ford CEO, Jim Hackett said: “I got emotional when I saw Molly McQueen talk about that car because it is the idea of the history of Ford where it has been a leader in categories like Mustang and F-150 not resting on its laurels,”

“The pressure on car sales is here to stay. That’s because crossover utility vehicles have become more popular,” said Jamie Albertine, auto analyst at Consumer Edge Research.

“Ford is putting money behind models that are more profitable and where the company has market share strength.”

Ford will no doubt be praying that the new Bullitt Mustang helps invigorate their identity following a recent period of stagnation where profits have taken a turn for the worse. Only a limited amount of the new Mustang will be produced, and the hope is they’ll restore direction to a company that has lost its way in recent times.
